MasterCard 2023 Masters Scholarships in University of California – USA

The Berkeley program is administered through the Center for African Studies and is supported by a diverse range of institutional components, including the Division of Student Affairs, the Graduate School, the Berkeley International Office, and International House.

From 2020 to 2028, the MasterCard University of California, Berkeley Masters Scholarships for Sub-Saharan African students will provide financial, academic, social, and career counselling to Masters students.

The University of California, Berkeley's African Studies program is sponsored by a diverse group of campus departments, including the Division of Student Affairs, the Graduate Division, the Berkeley International Office, and International House.

Mastercard Foundation provides grants and technical assistance in the developing world, primarily to promote financial inclusion.

Everyone should have the chance to study and prosper, according to the Mastercard Foundation. Everyone should have an equal chance to succeed, no matter what their starting point in life is. We believe that people can benefit from education, financial services, and skills training if they are provided with them. We aim to assist economically disadvantaged young Africans in moving themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty to a better life.

The aim and benefits of the MasterCard/University of California Masters Scholarships are described.

  • Scholarship is  fully-funded scholarship

To be eligible for the MasterCard/University of California Masters Scholarships, you must meet the following requirements.

An individual must meet five criteria to be eligible for the program:

  1. To be a citizen of a sub-Saharan African country— Even if you are a stateless refugee or hold refugee status, you may still be eligible for this scholarship if you are a citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country. Please contact us for more information. North African countries are excluded.
  2. All prospective Scholars must first be admitted to UC Berkeley in order to be considered for the Scholarship. Academic excellence is an important factor for admission to the University.
  3. We aim to provide assistance to those extremely talented individuals who have no other means of getting the education they need to realise their dreams and aspirations, coming from an economically disadvantaged background.
  4. The purpose of this application is to identify students who are committed to helping their communities, countries, or continents. You must be involved in activities beyond the classroom to be considered. While we are interested in your academic achievements, we also want to know about your other commitments (social, economic, and political issues that you care about and are working on). Please explain your achievements in both your UC Berkeley application and your application for the scholarship.
  5. After completing their studies, we seek students who are engaged with and passionate about the issues facing their communities. UC Berkeley's education will give these individuals the knowledge and training they need to address these issues when they return home. While important work can be accomplished from abroad, this programme aims to enable scholars to return home and establish important professional connections through internships and job placements.

Graduate degree seekers must first be admitted to the university through the regular admissions process before they can be considered for the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program.
